We are having very busy weeks in social studies.
We have been learning about immigration:
Students learned about Minik, and eskimo boy who was taken from his home in Greenland to America.
They read the picture book the Arrival by Sean Tan. They also looked at and made observations of Jane Addams Hull House maps that featured the many different groups that lived around Hull House in Chicago.
We also discussed assimilation for immigrants. Students also looked at and made observations about the Orphan Trains that sent many children out of the crowded American cities into the country.
Students are also writing an inclass essay about treatment of African Americans in the Post Civil War South and the great migration of blacks to the Northern states.
November 13-17th will be about the settlement of the West.
